YES July 2017 Newsletter

Hello YES Member,

Many things have been going on in the Youth Aviation world, so here’s an update:-

Following a very successful talk at Shuttleworth in February, YES offered to support the Special Event Flying Days at Old Warden, and have played a big part in bringing the many facets of Youth Aviation and the opportunities to the general public, through glider making, cockpit visits and other activities.

A successful series of 3 day-visits to Shuttleworth from a Luton school’s 13 – 16 year-olds was hard but rewarding work for volunteers from Coventry University, YES and BMFA members, who used buddy boxes to let pupils experience flying RC models.

The second annual LAA Youth Aviation Day at Turweston was again a success, with visits from Leia Fee with her X-Air Falcon, and the Telford RAeS/Boeing Rans for cockpit visits, plus pedal-plane building, hangar tours and model flying.

RIAT at Fairford was a chance for Graham Wiley to fly in with the Georgia Williams Trust Rans, and spread the word about youth aircraft builds, and earlier in the year it had flown at the Cosford Airshow.

The YES flag also flew at Goodwood Festival of Speed, where a group from Stow Maries Airfield took their 5 pedal planes and enjoyed a long weekend giving rides, passes and expenses being met by the event organisers.

There are 3 more Shuttleworth events days to come, the first Sunday of each month, and some help is still needed for the September and October events if you can assist – please contact Stewart Luck.

The LAA Rally is another ‘must-see’ 1-3 Sept. Volunteers to help are always welcome, and there’s an emphasis on education and training this year.

So, there’s lots going on – please support in any way you can.

Thanks, Dave Hall, Hon. Sec, Youth & Education Support.
