{"id":4674,"date":"2021-03-11T10:36:04","date_gmt":"2021-03-11T10:36:04","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/yesflyers.org.uk\/?page_id=4674"},"modified":"2021-03-11T10:38:30","modified_gmt":"2021-03-11T10:38:30","slug":"the-spirit-of-brooklands","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/yesflyers.org.uk\/home\/the-spirit-of-brooklands\/","title":{"rendered":"G-TSOB -The Spirit of Brooklands"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"aligncenter size-large\"><a href=\"https:\/\/yesflyers.org.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/03\/image.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"532\" height=\"357\" src=\"https:\/\/yesflyers.org.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/03\/image.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-4675\" srcset=\"https:\/\/yesflyers.org.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/03\/image.png 532w, https:\/\/yesflyers.org.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/03\/image-300x201.png 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 532px) 100vw, 532px\" \/><\/a><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-center\"><strong><em>The Spirit of Brooklands<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>An engineering project that shows that&nbsp;young people can achieve high ambitions<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This project involved young people from all over the UK in building a RANS S6-ES&nbsp;kit aircraft, and&nbsp;was&nbsp;begun during&nbsp;2003&nbsp;under the leadership of&nbsp;Captain Stewart Luck, to mark the Centenary of Powered Flight.&nbsp; It helped celebrate&nbsp;<a href=\"http:\/\/flyers.org.uk\/Events\/Airshows\/Brooklands\/Brooklands100.htm\">Brooklands&#8217; Centenary<\/a>&nbsp;year and is funded through the museum&nbsp;&nbsp;<a href=\"http:\/\/www.brooklandsmuseum.com\/\">www.brooklandsmuseum.com<\/a>&nbsp;.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left\">The plane&nbsp;was built in sections by young people at&nbsp;Lisburn&nbsp;in Northern Ireland,&nbsp;Mold&nbsp;in Wales,&nbsp;Perth&nbsp;in Scotland and&nbsp;Manchester&nbsp;in England under the&nbsp;supervision of&nbsp;LAA (PFA) engineering inspectors&nbsp;as part of a nationwide community project.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left\">The aircraft sections came together and were assembled in the NW of England, then the aircraft was inspected to ensure it conformed to the engineering regulations, certificated for flight and began flying in the summer of 2005.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left\">Since then the aircraft has been seen by approximately 25,000 young people at events throughout the UK, including the&nbsp;Farnborough Air Show.&nbsp;&nbsp; It is also being flown at events and fly-ins in many parts of the country, and giving youngsters air-experience flights.&nbsp;&nbsp; The aircraft remains a testament to its young builders, a focus for the&nbsp;appreciation of scientific and engineering principles, and&nbsp;an&nbsp;information point for aviation sports and careers.&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Spirit of Brooklands An engineering project that shows that&nbsp;young people can achieve high ambitions.
